Sound like you have a defrost problem. The evaporator is behind the panel where the fan is. YOu will need to remove the panel, and test some of the defrosting components. Behind that panel are the heater and bi-metal. ( Bi-metal is also called defrost terminator ) the bi-metal looks like a little cylinder ( about the size of a stack of 8 quarters ) it should be attached to the freezing coils. With the refrigerator unplugged, make sure you have continuity through the bi-metal. This may involve cutting the wires to check, so leave enough wire to be able to splice back together if the bi-metal is good. ( The bi-metal must be ice cold before it will have continuity through it, as the heater heats up the coils it warms the bi-metal enough to loose continuity, therefore shutting the heater off ). Now with the bi-metal cold and no continuity through it, replace the bi-metal. If there is continuity, then check the heating element for continuity at both ends of its wires. If yu can check the ohm load on the heater it should read somewhere around 28ohms. If all these parts are good then it would have to be the defrost timer. If you had the model # I could go into further details on how to check the timer. Hope this helps

My compact frigidaire (frt05lg3dwo) ices up behind the panel in the freezer and then will not cool the freezer or the fridge compartment. I'm sure there is no airflow once the ice builds up in the freezer so that is why it wont cool down but the question is why is ice building up so quickly? It usually builds up 3 or 4 days after I've completely defrosted it by unplugging the unit and letting it sit for a day or so.
Isn't this a frost free regrigerator? perhaps something is wrong with the de
Mine does the same. Behind the panel in the freezer there is a sensor. The sensor should trigger the heating mechanism to melt the ice before it builds up. I believe the sensor/thermostat part number is KSD303A. I have tried to google but no such ...
Maytag side by side model MSD2656GEW. The refrigerator is not staying cold. There is some ice build up on the back of the freezer compartment. I can unplug it overnight and then it will work fine for a few weeks before it starts having the same problem. After reading some, I think it is the defrost assembly (control board ) or something like it. I am not sure where it is located on this model and how to replace it.

I have a Jenn-Air side by side frig. The freezer side cools too cold, the frig side not enough. 2 weeks ago I took all the food out of freezer and noticed ice build up on back. I unplugged unit, let it defrost overnight, and vacuumed coils in back. The next morning I plugged it back in and went to work. When I ret'd, the frig temp was 38' and freezer was making ice. I waited 2 days, then put food in again. Today, I noticed temp in frig is 48'. I don't see any ice build up. Suggestions? Mod
If the freezer is staying cold it sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out ACMEHowTo.com for troubleshooting the defroster proble ...

The freezer seems to go into defrost mode and stays in it. The ice maker does not freeze the cubes as well. Unpluged the unit and cleaned coils and such. Plugged back in and it worked for a day then went into defrost mode and stayed there. The quick ice button does not work as well as it does not turn on the fan in the freezer side. I am thinking it is the mother board as the fan in the back of the unit behind the silver grill/panel works. Is there a diagnostic procedure I can do to make sure it

My Viking refridgerator is not getting cold. The Freezer worked fine and made ice until I had a repair out to service it. He disconnected the back, checked for ice build up and disconnected a fuze. After that he cut if off and on and now nothing works. Not even the ice maker and freezer or its just taking time to get cold again. My temp lights are running back and forth. Are they supposed to be.

I have the Sub Zero 550 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator. Just recently, the Freezer section started getting warmer and the ice maker stopped working...all at roughly the same time. It had been set to "5" regularly.
I turned the freezer to 0, vaccuumed out the coils/air intake up top, made sure the fan at the top was running (which it is), set the freezer temp back to 5 and am waiting to see what happens. The freezer only gets cold enough to freeze ice when I set it to 10 now. And the ice make

I have a GE Profile Arctica refrigerator (model #PSC23SGNABS) that has stopped cooling. I have opened the bottom back panel and cleaned away all dust build up around the condenser coils and made sure the fan there is working. Everything seems to be working normally except that warmish air is being blown into the freezer side just below the i

I accidently left my freezer door cracked open one night and in the morning it had ice build up inside it and the fridge wasn't working. Since then I've pulled it out and cleaned up behind it, defrosted it and dried it out and it will only work for a while, then it's right back to frost building up and the fridge is hardly cold. Before I left the door open that one night the fridge/freezer worked perfectly. It's been 5 months of this. Is it broken, or is there something I can do?
I have a Samsung RS2555SW and the Freezer side is not working properly. It started blinking -4 so I reset it via the panel and then by unplugging it. Neither worked. This happen a month ago and I took everything out of both sides, unplugged it and let the entrie thing defrost. Now I am having the blinking -4 thing again and tried to reset, but to no avail. When I

It started out with ice building up on bottom of freezer and water leaking out of bottom of fridge. Now fridge side is not working . Freezer side still works and when you open door you can still hear a fan running somewhere . The big fan in the back under the freezer side and next to the compressor however is not. We are broke right now and not sure what to do. I need to fix myself if possible.

The defrost cycle seems to stay on too long-ice already made will start melting & then refreeze into 1 big chunk. Eventually the "melt" will build up in the bottom of the freezer & will eventually find its way onto my floor. Also directly behind the icemaker, on the back wall of the freezer, there is an ice formation that looks like water has run down the wall & frozen (this area of ice is on the left of what looks like a vent about 3"x3"-not covering the vent) The icemaker is in the left corner

My frigidaire side by side started making noises a couple days ago. Sound coming from ice maker location (maybe behind it?). It stopped making ice too. The next day lots of ice was made and then the noise went away but both the freezer and fridge started warming up and the ice was melting. By the next morning, both sides were working again and the noise was back. Ice maker filled with ice and kept making ice so I turned it off. Now both sides are warming yet again, ice melting and sound is gone

Westinghouse aurora fridge/freezer. Freezer still works fine, however the fridge won't run cold and doesn't respond to thermostat changes. Repair guy said the fan was on the way out and replaced it. Made no difference. Air flow into the fridge only seems sufficient when the freezer door is open. Have had the condenser cover off to de-ice twice. Ice build up was enough to stop the fan rotating.
My freezer was leaking water into my refrigerator, then it stopped freezing, then the refrigerator starting getting warm. I cleaned the coils under the fridge, they where very dirty and made sure the drain was clear, all the fans where working. It still didn't cool. I took the inside panel out of the freezer, on the right side of the coil there is line going in, it had very heavy frost (ice maybe) in just a short period of time. Is my fridge shot?
